This guide is general information to help you find your way around. It is not legal advice, and the rules differ between states and change from time to time. For your own situation, check with your state’s tenancy regulator or a tenancy advice service.
Notice
Whether you are the renter or the landlord, ending a tenancy needs the right written notice for the reason, given in the right way. The notice periods differ between states and between fixed-term and periodic agreements.
If you are unsure, check with your state’s tenancy regulator before you give notice.
The final inspection and the bond
Clean the home and compare it with the condition report from the start. Fair wear and tear is expected and is not the renter’s cost.
Agree on the bond in writing where you can. If you cannot agree, the tribunal in your state can decide.
